In 2002, James McBride together with Christopher Burch purchased a beach hostel on an Indonesian island.the two renovated the hostel to a five-star resort with $30 million.Burch believes that when the place you are in has a beautiful palette, it will motivate you to do things that you find impossible to do in other locations.

Burch founded a factory that could to produce a brand known as ‘’preppy’’ sweaters with the aim of selling them in his campus.His business soon grew and he decided to expand it to other campuses. Within a decade, Burch had managed to grow the company in terms of sales and its retail stores. Eventually, he ended up selling part of the group to Swire Group in the year nineteen eighty-nine and ended up selling the whole company in the year nineteen ninety-eight. Christoper Burch’s decision to broaden the type investments that his company makes has resulted in a very positive way. In 2012, Christopher had decided to invest in the industry of hospitality. A beach hostel located on the Indonesian island of Sumba was purchased by Burch Creative Capital along with an hotelier known as James McBride. Together, an investment of $30 million was made to renovate this hostel. In 2015, this location was reopened as a 5-star resort called Nihiwatu.

The opening of the resort resulted in great success. Following its opening, Nihiwatu was named the best result in the world by Travel + Leisure in 2016.
