Civil Right Groups Speak Out In Support of DACA

The National Council of Laraza, or NCLR, now renamed Unidos US, is an organization that focuses on the rights of immigrants. It is a nonprofit group that does advocacy work for the Latino community. It helps oppose unnecessary immigration, it helps immigrants achieve legal status, and it advocates for immigration reform. It is based in Washington, DC, but it has branches all over the United States. Read more: Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

They support civil rights and criminal justice. They help immigrants gain employment and have a stable financial situation. They work to improve education for immigrants and their children. They help immigrants register to vote. They help them get the healthcare they need. They focus on young people in particular.

Another group that focuses on civil rights and the rights of immigrants is called the Frontera Fund. It was founded by Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey. These were two journalists that criticized Joe Arpaio. He had them arrested in an effort to intimidate them.

They filed a lawsuit against the county and won, with the court stating that it was a gross violation of free speech and civil rights. Lacey and Larkin decided to use the money they won in the lawsuit to set up a foundation that would improve the civil rights of others and which would help out immigrants, who had suffered badly under Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

For example, they help support DACA. DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It refers to children who were brought here by their parents. The DACA program shields them from deportation and helps them study and find work here.

The DACA program has been in jeopardy because of efforts by some in the Republican Party to have it repealed. The Frontera Fund worked hard to oppose those efforts.

Another thing that the Frontera Fund focuses on is education. For example, one issue with education was that there was a shortage of teachers in Arizona.

This ties into the DACA issue, as many of those helped by DACA have become teachers. These teachers have the unique advantage in that they speak the language of many of their students and can help them better.
